Website vs Facebook page for a small business
Social media helps — but it isn’t a substitute for a website you own. Here’s how to think about both.
What Facebook does well
Facebook and Instagram are useful for updates, social proof and staying visible with people who already know you. For some local businesses, messaging on social is a real enquiry channel.
The problem starts when social becomes the only online presence. You don’t control distribution, layout limitations are real, and customers still search Google when trust matters.
What a website does that social can’t
A website gives you stable URLs, clearer service explanations, stronger SEO potential, professional branding and conversion paths designed around your offer.
It’s also where serious buyers compare you. If competitors have a polished site and you only have a Facebook page, you look less established — even if your work is better.
The practical answer: use both
Most small businesses should keep social profiles and run a focused website as the home base. Social posts can send people to service pages, case studies or contact forms you control.
If budget forces a sequence, fix the website foundation first when acquisition and credibility are priorities — then use social to amplify it.
